Minister Ogwang Urges National Unity to Support Akii-Bua Stadium and Dr. Aceng’s Vision

During a recent Boda Boda Festival in Lira City, Peter Ogwang, the State Minister for Sports, delivered a stirring speech on the progress of the national stadium project and the vital contributions of Health minister also the woman MP, Lira City, Dr. Jane Ruth Aeng.

Minister Ogwang passionately emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Ministry of Education and Sports in ensuring the successful construction of the Akii-Bua Stadium and its impact on Uganda’s sporting infrastructure.

“I remember one meeting where Dr. Jane Ruth boldly told the Minister of Education and the President that if we don’t fulfill our pledge for this project, it will be a huge failure,” Ogwang recalled. “Today, we must not forget the crucial role she’s played in making this dream a reality. Let’s stop calling her just ‘Dr. Jane Ruth’she is the driving force behind this incredible project.”

Ogwang highlighted the stadium’s anticipated status as the best sports facility in Uganda, noting that it would not only boast state-of-the-art infrastructure but also provide unmatched facilities in the region. “This will include the first Olympic-size swimming pool in the entire East and Northern Uganda, as well as indoor games facilities,” he said.

Further emphasizing the importance of supporting the project, he urged the public to recognize and appreciate the efforts of Dr. Jane Ruth. “We often forget how much our own people contribute. If you truly love your country and its development, you should support Dr. Ruth’s efforts. Don’t undermine her or her work, she’s making history for us.”

In his speech, Ogwang also touched on the need for better road networks around the stadium, with plans to work with the Ministry of Works to ensure 10 kilometers of roads are developed to improve access. “You cannot have a state-of-the-art stadium without the necessary infrastructure surrounding it,” he stated.

Ogwang further call upon the business communities in Lira City to consider constructing good hotels in the city. “The hotels are essential. We need these facilities for the future growth of tourism and sports in Uganda,” he said.

Turning to the local community, Ogwang passionately called for unity and greater support for national development. “Why are we fighting against our own? Why are we rejecting progress and development? If we want to see change, we must work together, not tear each other apart,” he said, stressing that leadership and cooperation are key to Uganda’s success.
