2024 FIFA Puskás Award Nominee, Omedi Signs for Rwandan Side APR FC

Rwandan Premier League giants APR FC have officially announced the signing of Ugandan footballers Denis Omedi and Hakim Kiwanuka. The duo penned two-year deals and were in attendance during APR’s league game against Marines FC in Gishenyi.

Omedi, a 2024 Puskás Award nominee, has been a key player in Ugandan football, most notably for Kitara FC, where his exceptional performances helped the team secure the Stanbic Uganda Cup. Known for his incredible goal-scoring prowess, Omedi has also been vital for the Uganda Cranes, netting twice in their successful AFCON 2025 qualification campaign.

OMEDI

For months, Omedi was at the center of intense transfer speculation, with Kitara FC Chairman Deo Kasozi confirming interest from over five clubs. While a rumored move to Singapore fell through due to contractual disagreements, APR FC succeeded in securing the prolific forward’s signature.

Hakim Kiwanuka, meanwhile, arrives at APR FC following a stellar season with SC Villa, where he played a crucial role in their Uganda Premier League title win last year. Both Omedi and Kiwanuka were named earlier today in Uganda Cranes’ provisional squad for CHAN 2024 by coach Paul Put. However, their move to APR FC effectively rules them out of the tournament due to eligibility rules.

At APR FC, the pair join compatriot Taddeo Lwanga, further strengthening the club’s Ugandan contingent. The signings highlight APR’s ambition to dominate both domestic and regional competitions in the coming seasons.
