The Chief Magistrate of Lira, Joe Fay Adoko, has granted bail to Awio Isaac, also known as Awio Scrap Dealer, and six others accused of orchestrating a violent attack on popular local artist Walter Ogwang, widely known as Lil Square, on January 3, 2025.
The accused, including six bouncers allegedly hired by Awio, face charges of assault and malicious damage to property stemming from the incident on Obote Avenue in Lira City.
According to police reports and videos circulatin, the attack occurred in broad daylight when Awio and his team allegedly blocked Lil Square’s vehicle—a white Toyota Max 2 Grand (registration UAU 045Q)and launched the assault. The artist was physically attacked, and the vehicle’s front windshield was shattered during the incident.
The suspects have been identified as Eric Odyeny, David Arok, Bonny Acai, Ronald Okumu, Ambrose Omara, and Elvis Okoo, all of whom were reportedly involved in the attack. Sources allege that the confrontation stemmed from a monetary demand by Awio. When Lil Square allegedly failed to meet the demand, the attack was carried out, described by police as a “premeditated act of aggression.”
During the hearing on January 8, 2025, Magistrate Adoko approved the suspects’ temporary release under strict conditions. The case is scheduled for its next hearing on January 16, 2025, when prosecutors are expected to present additional evidence.
SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, North Kyoga Police PRO, assured the public of a thorough investigation and a fair judicial process. “No one is above the law. We are committed to ensuring justice for the victim and holding all perpetrators accountable,” Okema stated.
The incident has left the community divided. Some residents are advocating for resolution through the courts, while others demand stricter measures to address public violence and intimidation in Lira City.
The January 16 court session is anticipated to reveal further details about the motivations behind the attack and the extent of accountability for those involved.
