Lira Diocese witnessed a profound moment of dedication and faith as 15 nuns from the Missionary Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church (MSMMC) congregation officially took their perpetual vows at the congregation’s Mother House in Ngetta.
The sisters who made this lifelong commitment are: Sr. Agnes Ninsiima, Sr. Sylvia Atim, Sr. Collin Atim, Sr. Harriet Ketty Abang, Sr. Goretti Katusiime, Sr. Scovia Atim, Sr. Edrid Katwakire, Sr. Gracious Tumwebaze, Sr. Lydia Kamusiime, Sr. Bibiana Atwohereize, Sr. Rita, Sr. Letita, Sr. Fortunate Kyomuhangi, Sr. Bidong Brenda, and Sr. Jovita Akatkunda.

The solemn event was presided over by Bishop Rt. Rev. Santus Lino Wanok, who highlighted the holiness of this year’s milestone for the Catholic Church. He reminded the congregation that the vows symbolize the Church’s holiness, rooted in Christ, and reflected in the lives of the dedicated sisters.

“The journey of being a sister for life demands a supportive community of believers. Today’s vows remind us all of the holiness of the Church and the depth of commitment required in this vocation,” Bishop Wanok emphasized.
In addition to the perpetual vows, the event also marked the first profession of vows by eight other sisters on Tuesday, in a ceremony led by Bishop Wanok.
Sr. Libarata Mandawun, Superior General of MSMMC, lauded the nuns for their unwavering dedication to their divine calling and expressed gratitude to Bishop Wanok for his spiritual guidance and steadfast support.
She noted that the sisters’ commitment signifies their willingness to serve God and humanity selflessly.
The celebrations also included a special acknowledgment from Pope Francis, who extended his heartfelt congratulations to three sisters marking their golden jubilee: Sr. Nataline Mowo, Sr. Angela Rijoo, and Sr. Natalie Mania, celebrating 50 years of dedicated service.
The event brought together a host of religious leaders, including Archbishop Raphael p’Mony Wokorach of Gulu Archdiocese, Bishop Sabino Ochan Odoki of Arua Diocese, and the bishop-elect of Nebbi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Constantine Rupiny, along with numerous priests and faithful from various dioceses.
The day served as a profound reminder of the power of faith and the enduring strength of the Catholic Church in nurturing vocations and spreading Christ’s love across the world.
