As Lira gears to host AFCON 2027, another hospitality center has opened in the city.
Tonco Tower Hotel is located in Obutuwelo popularity known as Rainbow, about two kilometers along Lira- Apac- Rwekunge road. The three storied- building will provide accommodations, restaurant and night parking.
Tony Adeka, the proprietor of the hotel explained how he started business as a young man from a humble background saying without the support of other businessmen, his business wouldn’t have flourished.
He emphasized the need for patience and trust between businessmen in order for them to develop together.
Bosco Ogwang Edola, the former chairperson chamber of commerce is excited that this hotel will increase the bed- night capacity which he says is currently very low. Edola, who has invested a lot in the hotel business in Lira, explained that development cannot be achieved without good hotels.
“Right now, we must invest more in the industry because as you know AFCON is coming here and we still need a lot more bed-nights in Lira because what we have is not enough.” He said
Adding that “There is no limit to the market of hotels. Everyone has a different level of hotel they want; some need small hotels that even when you send them to a big one, they would refuse and the reverse is true.”
Similarly, Lawrence Egole, the Lira Resident City Commissioner called on other businessmen to invest in the hospitality industry to boost the development of Lira as a city. Adding that with the coming of AFCON, there must be good hotels to
“We still have a low level of hotels in this city so when someone adds something like Tonco has been launched today, that’s an addition to our number. My request to you who have been blessed with resources please tune to the hospitality industry.”

Laury Lawrence Ocen, the Awitong (clan chief) of Okarowok wibye acel clan to which Adeka subscribes advised hoteliers to ensure high standard and embrace digital visibility to attract foreign customers.
“About five years ago a friend of mine from America came to Lira and was staying in a very small hotel because that was the only hotel he could find online so my advice is let your hotels be visible online. You can as well incorporate a shuttle which picks up your guests right from the airport at your cost.”
Meanwhile Fr. Lawrence Sunday Ogwang- Curet Lira Cathedral who animated mass to bless the hotel emphasized the need for couples to work together for the growth of their family. He also tasked them to be content and grateful for what they have.
“This should be a sign and symbol of your continuous unity on everything you will do as a couple because whatever a woman touches will definitely succeed. In a home every person lives together. Everything must be done in light so that there are no secrets amongst them.”
“Also, what God cannot do does not exist. God can do anything but you must work hard as you pray to God.” He added.
