The Diocese of Lira ushered in the Jubilee Year 2025 with a spiritually charged celebration on December 29, 2024, led by Rt. Rev. Sanctus Lino Wanok.

The event, themed “Pilgrims of Hope,” commenced with the opening of the Holy Door at Uganda Martyrs Cathedral Lira, symbolizing a call to God’s mercy and love.
Thousands of faithful, including clergy, religious, and lay Christians, gathered to mark this momentous occasion. The day began with the reading of the Jubilee Bull at St. Daniel Comboni Eucharistic Center in Adyel. A 2-kilometer procession followed, uniting participants in prayer and reflection as they journeyed to the Cathedral.
At the Cathedral, Bishop Wanok ceremoniously opened the Holy Door, inviting all to embark on a journey of spiritual renewal and reconciliation. During his homily, the Bishop described the Jubilee as a divine opportunity for healing, forgiveness, and transformation.
“This is a sacred moment for us to heal from sin and draw closer to God,” he said, urging Christians to rebuild relationships, strengthen families, and promote community unity.
Reflecting on the Feast of the Holy Family, Bishop Wanok encouraged families to emulate Joseph, Mary, and Jesus, emphasizing the family as a foundation of love and faith. He warned against distractions like excessive technology use and called for deeper family interactions.
The Bishop also encouraged Christians to engage in sacraments, acts of charity, and prayer, while urging priests to foster unity and spiritual growth.
Running until December 28, 2025, the Jubilee Year offers a chance for the faithful to reflect, renew, and rebuild, living as “Pilgrims of Hope” and shining as beacons of God’s mercy in their communities.
