The Uganda Technical College (UTC) Lira celebrated its 10th graduation ceremony, with the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Kataaha Museveni, urging parents to embrace technical education as a key to addressing unemployment in Uganda.

In a message delivered by Loy Abaine Muhwezi, Commissioner for Vocational and Technical Education and Training, the first lady highlighted the government’s substantial investments in technical education institutions to develop a skilled workforce.
She emphasized that technical education offers practical solutions to unemployment by equipping learners with in-demand skills.
UTC Lira is among the institutions gazetted as a center of excellence for road construction. This recognition reflects the quality of training and its role in developing skilled professionals who will transform Uganda’s infrastructure landscape
This year, 1,748 graduates, including 215 females, received diplomas and certificates in various fields such as road construction, civil engineering, and ICT. Many of the graduates expressed gratitude for the hands-on training that prepares them to compete in the job market effectively.

The graduation ceremony featured cultural performances, awards for outstanding students, and recognition of staff contributions. It also underscored UTC Lira’s critical role in bridging Uganda’s skills gap, particularly in the road construction sector.
With its ongoing achievements and contributions, UTC Lira remains a cornerstone of Uganda’s technical education landscape, empowering the next generation of skilled professionals.
