Legendary singer Brazen Rule of Hard Core Records took to Facebook to express deep disappointment following the launch of the Akii-Bua Memorial Stadium construction. Brazen Rule’s distressing message tinted the absence of musicians from the event, highlighting what he perceives as a disregard for the music industry’s pivotal role in society.
In his post, Brazen Rule lamented the exclusion of musicians from the launch, emphasizing the music industry’s ability to shape societal beliefs and unite communities. He referenced the anthem “AkiiBua pe Bolo kwir pe,” a collaborative effort that symbolized unity among the Lango people, and part of the activism that was to ensure that the stadium is build.
Highlighting the challenges faced by Lango artists, Brazen Rule drew attention to their constant undervaluation and neglect across social, political, and economic platforms. He wrote passionately about the exploitation endured by musicians, urging Lango’s leaders and stakeholders to acknowledge the equal importance of music alongside religion, sports, and security.
The heartfelt post served as a rallying cry for greater recognition and support for the music industry, emphasizing the need to confront obstacles faced by artists and foster a culture that reveres creativity.
Brazen Rule’s message resonated amidst ongoing developments regarding the Akii-Bua Stadium project as government makes U-turn on its commitment to host the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 at the stadium.
On Thursday, February 29th, 2024, State Minister for Education and Sports, Peter Ogwang, revealed plans for the construction of the stadium, aimed to be completed within 22 months in preparation for hosting the 2027 games.
Ogwang who was in the company of officials from SAMCO Egypt, the construction company which was awarded the contract to construct the stadium was addressing hundreds of fans and local leaders of Lango at the Akii-Bua playground.
According to Ogwang, the government has been prioritizing other activities as well as engaging various stakeholders to secure funding for the project.
Despite these hurdles, Mayor of Lira City, Sam Atul, urged stakeholders to unite in honoring the late John Akii-Bua by ensuring the stadium’s construction in his honor.
