Rt Rev. Santus Lino Wanok, the Bishop of Lira Catholic Diocese, has called upon individuals in the entertainment and bar business to reconsider their practices during the forthcoming lent period.
Bishop Lino, made this plea during a press briefing at his residence while making an influential speech preceding the Lenten season. He advised the need for those in the entertainment industry to desist from playing loud music, holding concerts and engaging in acts that disturb the peace. He urged them to help people take care of their lives, emphasizing that life is more valuable than material gains.
The Lenten season, themed “Repentance, Prayer, and Work,” draws inspiration from Matthew 4:17, with Bishop Lino highlighting Jesus’ concern for humanity and the journey of faith. The bishop called on Christians to walk this journey together, fostering a sense of shared solidarity with Jesus Christ.
During the 40-day Lenten period, Bishop Lino urged Christians to focus on repentance, prayer, and fasting. He explained the concept of fasting as a way to overcome personal challenges and demonstrate selflessness by assisting those in need.
In addition to spiritual practices, the bishop emphasized the importance of work during Lent, encouraging Christians to engage in meaningful labor that reflects the standards of Christian living. Bishop Lino highlighted the need for rest on Sundays, promoting a balanced and spiritually aligned lifestyle.
Warning against the dangers of the seven capital sins, the bishop urged believers to be vigilant, emphasizing the importance of self-control and humility to avoid falling into these traps.
He further called for unity among Christians and extended warm wishes for a safe and fruitful Lenten season to all, including the Muslim community, who also observe fasting during this period.

Almsgiving stresses the importance of charity and helping those in need. The Lenten journey aims to foster spiritual growth, communal unity, and a renewed focus on Christian values, guiding believers towards a meaningful observance of Easter.
Last Years, the Ecumenical way of the cross on Good Friday which is also part of the tradition brought together three denominations including Catholics, Anglicans and orthodox. Christians matched 15km through and around Lira city.
