Death by Poisoning in Amolatar District Sparks Police Investigation

Amolatar Police Station Registers DEF 001/2024 as David Ogwal, 53, Found Dead*

The territorial command at Amolatar Police Station has initiated a Death Enquiry File (DEF) 001/2024 following the suspected poisoning death of David Ogwal, a 53-year-old resident of Ali village, Muntu parish, Muntu Sub-County, Amolator District.

SP. Jimmy Patrick Okema, spokesperson for North Kyoga Regional Police, revealed that the incident was reported by Sam Olobo, the LC1 chairperson of Ali village.

Police findings suggest that the incident might have occurred in Muntu Township, Muntu Sub-County. On January 31, 2024, around 10:00 AM, David Ogwal met Solomon Okema and Tony Ogwal in Muntu Township.

At approximately 6:00 PM, Tony Ogwal purchased porridge from Mary Auma for Solomon Okema. However, Okema declined to eat it and asked Tony Ogwal to serve it to David Ogwal. After consuming the porridge, Ogwal allegedly complained that it was sour.

The following day, February 1, 2024, at 7:00 AM, David Ogwal complained of stomach ache and vomiting. His daughter, Phoebe Apili, took him to a local clinic but later transferred him to Amolatar H/C4 as his condition worsened. On February 4, at 8:00 AM, Ogwal and his daughter reportedly escaped from the health facility. At 11:00 AM, Ogwal breathed his last.

Upon the family’s report to the LC1 chairperson, Muntu Police Post was alerted. Police responded to the scene, collected samples for analysis, and documented the incident. The body was recovered from Ogwal’s house and conveyed to Amolatar H/C4 pending postmortem examination.

In connection to the incident, three individuals have been arrested to aid in the ongoing police investigation.
