In a devastating incident on pre Christmas day, Sunday December 24th, 2023, at approximately 13:00 hours, a fatal accident occurred in Akor village along the Lira-Apala road.
The victims, Ogwal Joshua and a 12 year old girl, both residents of Oleng Biro cell, Amuca ward, Lira-City West Division, lost their lives in the collision.
According to North Kyoga PRO SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the accident involved Motor Vehicle Reg No UBF 306D, which was speeding and attempting to overtake another vehicle.
Tragically, it collided with Motorcycle Reg UEW 758R traveling in the opposite direction. Ogwal Joshua, the motorcycle rider, died instantly, while Acen Penina, a juvenile passenger, succumbed to injuries upon arrival at Lira Regional Referral Hospital.
The driver fled the scene, prompting a police investigation. Lira-City CPS traffic officers visited the scene, recorded statements from witnesses, and drew a sketch plan. The deceased bodies are now at the Lira regional referral hospital mortuary, awaiting postmortem.
Both the motor vehicle and motorcycle are impounded at the station for IOV inspection. The police urge the driver to surrender himself at the nearest police station for statement recording and to face charges.
In a statement, the police emphasized road safety, advising the public to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such tragic incidents.
