A section of believers in Dokolo District have come together to encourage their legislators to symbolize the spirit of charity and community support year-round, rather than just during political campaigns.
Their appeal comes as they received generous donations from their woman MP, Hon. Cecilia Barbra Atim, aimed at supporting the construction of various churches in the district, emphasizing the need for more sustained community engagement from their elected representatives.

They expressed their disappointment with politicians who only seem to engage in acts of charity during election periods, only to disappear from the community once the elections are over.
Through her personal assistant, Santos Okuja, Hon. Cecilia Barbra Atim is providing building materials, including iron sheets, bags of cement, and financial support, to more than 150 churches in the district. Mr. Okuja cautioned the communities against misusing the donations for personal gain.

The beneficiaries of these donations are delighted, as they believe it will significantly contribute to the development of their places of worship. Many churches in the district have struggled for years to gather resources for construction, with some congregations even resorting to holding services under trees due to incomplete or no structures.
Jacinta Odwee, a member of St Arima Church of Uganda, shared her gratitude, stating that the MP’s contribution would go a long way in finishing their church’s construction. She cited that Hon. Cecilia Barbra Atim had pledged for 55 bags of cement and UGX 1 million for the church construction where she also donated UGX 300,000 to the church for the procurement of Mother’s Union uniforms.
Odwee further appealed to other members of parliament to follow Hon. Cecilia Barbra Atim’s example of year-round charity rather than reserving their kindness for campaign periods.
Owula Julius Peter, a lay preacher at Abenyo SDA Church in Dokolo Sub County, called upon all MPs to prioritize initiatives that empower local communities in income-generation activities, fostering self-reliance and poverty reduction in the near future.
