Speculation continues to grow as Ministers Betty Amongi and Jane Ruth Acheng Are Rumoured Contenders for Lira City Woman MP Seat in 2026 Elections
The political landscape of Lira City is buzzing with anticipation as two prominent ministers from Lango Sub-Region, Hon. Betty Amongi and Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth Acheng, are rumoured to be potential contenders for the Lira City Woman Member of Parliament seat in the upcoming 2026 elections.
However, it’s important to note that neither of the ministers has made any official statements regarding their candidacy at this point.
The speculation surrounding Minister Amongi and Minister Acheng stems from their growing support and popularity within their respective camps. Hon. Amongi, who currently serves as the Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development, represents Oyam South in Parliament and has gained recognition for her work in promoting gender equality and social development.
On the other hand, Dr. Jane Ruth Acheng, the Health Minister and Woman legislator for Lira City East, has made significant contributions to the healthcare sector elevating from the fight of pandemic, COVID-19.
It should be noted that in May, 2023, said campaign portraits of both ministers’ surfaces social media where they were expected to grapple it out in the NRM Vice Chair position for Northern Uganda. The position still remains vacant since the death of the death of farmer Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah Lukori on the 20th March 2022.
However, it should be noted that Hon. Amongi is generally believed to be affiliated with the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party, despite her involvement in the ruling party National Resistance Movement (NRM)
While it seems be too early to draw any conclusions about their political ambitions for the 2026 elections, the presence of two influential figures like Hon. Betty Amongi and Dr. Jane Ruth Acheng in the race for the Lira City Woman MP seat promises an interesting contest.
As the political climate heats up, citizens eagerly await official announcements from the ministers regarding their candidacy and party affiliations.
