OYAM DISTRICT: The Electoral Commission has announced that the by-election to replace the fallen former MP and Minister of State for Labor, Charles Patrick Okello Engola Macodwogo, will take place on Thursday 6th July 2023.
The seat was declared vacant on 2nd May 2023 following the tragic death of Okello Engola, who was killed by his bodyguard Wilson Sabiti.
The nomination of candidates will take place for two days from 19th to 20th June 2023, with campaigns set to begin from 22nd June 2023 to 4th July 2023.



The Electoral Commission public relations officer, Paul Bukenya, stated that the EC Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, will unveil the entire program during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Oyam District Headquarters on Thursday 18th 2023.
Bukenya also assured voters that the commission is making all necessary preparations to ensure that the by-election is held as scheduled.
Several individuals have expressed interest in running for the Oyam North seat, including Samuel Engola Junior Okello, the son of the former MP, former diplomat Ambassador Julius Peter Moto, investor Queen Dorothy Amolo, Lawyer Chrispus Ayena Odongo, and Dr. Eunice Apio Ebil. It remains to be seen which candidate will win the election and fill the vacant seat.
